High School Friends

Indeed, the internet is a powerful tool especially the programs intended for people to network socially. The world has gotten smaller and it has become so easy to access people from all over the world.
I have not spent so much time with my High School friends after graduation. I had a handful of them in college and eventually these few I have slowly disappeared.
Maybe it is a sign of getting old when we all yearn to look back to "those years". Facebook has facilitated the reconnection. I was not initially receptive to social networking. The concept of letting all of the world to read and peek into one's private domain was not a good wow to me.
Pero, I had a change of heart. I met my FLP classmates. In fact, a reunion last February (1st after 30 years) was planned out through the internet - Facebook. Hindi naman pala masama. I can pick and choose what to divulge and who to share it with.
Yesterday, being a Saturday, was "linis" day. In between chores I have been chatting with a very old and good friend from Maryknoll. In the absence of wine and what else, we both turned melancholy and "sappy" especially when we listened to our old music (the language we used then - wow pare, ang bigat).
Lo and behold, another friend from the other side of the world, Israel specifically, was tuned in. Yon na yon. Halos walang katapusang message exchanges ang nangyari. Hongkong chimed in too. Like I told one of them, I did not have this kind of conversations with them then. Ngayon na lang.
Lesson learned: Technology can work both ways. It can bring out the positive vibes in us, if we choose to do so. Going back in time once more, Elton John singing the theme song from the movie - "Friends".

I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary travellers to go
Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right
It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly
